COMMUNITY THEATER WORKSHOP

Picture
Melvin Ishmael Johnson leads the workshop every Tuesday evening from 6 PM to 9 PM at The Vortex, 2341 E. Olympic Boulevard in Los Angeles. The plan is to lay the foundation for a full-scale Veterans Community Theater Company based upon the Community Theater Model and the NESONA Model, both of which are defined below.

Melvin is the Artistic Director of Dramastage-Qumran, a Recovery Theater Workshop located in the Skid Row area of Los Angeles that provides affordable theater to the downtown community relating to issues such as homelessness, substance abuse and the needs of veterans, women, children and families.

Enrollment is limited to 15 people. To register or for more info, send Melvin an
email.

The
Community Theater Model is the integration of seven components working in a spirit of harmony to present theater to the community. The components are:
(1) The Word
(2) The Artist
(3) The Audience
(4) The Dramastage Groups
   (a) Front of the House
   (b) Back of the House
(5) The Young People Theater Company
(6) The Dance Company
(7) The Anti-Violence Situation Coping Group

The
NESONA Model takes it name from the first letters of six concepts working in a spirit of harmony to impact the violence found in the individual, home, school and community. The concepts are:
(1) Nutrition
(2) Exercise
(3) Spirituality
(4) One-on-One
(5) Needs Fulfillment
(6) Anti-Violence Situation Coping Group
